How the due date is calculated
In most cases, the days in a payment term are calendar days counted from the invoice date. So an invoice dated March 1 with Net 30 terms falls due on March 31. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are included in the count unless the terms exclude them.
Typical invoice payment terms
- Due on receipt: payment falls due on the same day the invoice is dated.
- Net 7, Net 10, Net 15: the due date is 7, 10 or 15 days after the date on the invoice.
- Net 30: payment is due 30 days after the invoice date, a term used by many businesses.
- Net 45, Net 60, Net 90: extended terms that give the customer 45, 60 or 90 days.
- EOM (end of month): the invoice is due on the final day of the month it is dated in.
- Net 30 EOM: the 30 days start counting from the end of the invoice month.
Because EOM terms are used in slightly different ways, read the wording of your agreement.
Due dates on a weekend
Some businesses treat the next working day as the due date when it lands on a Saturday or Sunday. The weekend option moves a due date that falls on Saturday or Sunday to the next Monday.
